OPEN TO YOUROPE

This project was devised in Sardinia at the Grundtvig Contact Seminar organised by Italian National Agency in 2010. Our partnership was established as we recognised similarities in our work and approach to informal adult learning. Our main aim was to involve participants in mobilities to our countries and to create the opportunities for all participants to communicate and exchange their ideas and experiences. We recognised that the main obstacle is the language barrier and that we have to put an effort to make the participants to learn some words of the host’s language so that basic communication could be achieved.

This project presents is an opportunity for a group of adult learners and staff from the participating partner organisations to be involved in complex learning and cultural activities, at an informal settings which would not be overly demanding on their abilities, knowledge and skills, and which will introduce art, crafts, heritage, practical and social skills through the series of mobilities and meetings undertaken between partner countries. An informal learning and exchange of experiences and previous knowledge would enhance participants’ talents and individual expressions related to the new subjects, helping them to develop a better understanding of the needs and lifestyles of people from other cultures. It would help external European communication and cohesion, envisaged by those individuals who would realise that they belong to a larger society. The aim of this project is also to increase the opportunities to gain new skills and support people in achieving their personal goals.

We also hope to put, as an urgent subject, on the agenda of Italian policy this segment of education encouraging the necessary investments. We promote cultural activities projects by the collaboration between formal education, such as adult night school, and informal education, such as public libraries. These activities permit to explore and valorize the full range of basis literacy competences.
