DELIBERATE REJECTION OR LACK OF INTEREST?
EXERCISING THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN THE 21ST CENTURY DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY
PANEL DISCUSSION:
Thursday 7 JUNE 2018 opened from 3.30 – 5.30 pm
House of Commons, Parliament Committee Room 12, House of Commons, Westminster SW1A 0AA
The panel discussion will be about active citizenship among millennials.
Young people and millennials do not vote in greater numbers – and why? We would like to compare this with the women’s vote and the struggle which women went through to win their rights 100 years ago. Now we have democratic instruments and the law allowing young people to vote and to be more proactive in politics. The millennial generation’s inevitable future task is to help to make many positive changes in our society, but, without exercising their rights and interest in politics not much will happen. Is it lethargy or lack of faith that they cannot reach deep enough into political life and transform the system? or is it a lack of real-life education at school about politics and government in the UK or often opposing ideas through media presentations? Or is it something else entirely new? – this is the theme of this discussion. At the beginning of the panel talk, there will be an introduction to Vote 100 as well.
The audience will be versatile, invited from schools and universities and the general public.
