BELARUS ART – LIVING AND DREAMING

Buschick Nikolay Vladimirovich, Bather, 1998, oil painting

1-3 October 2018

Opening time: 1st October 12 – 5 pm   Other days 12 – 8 pm

5th Base Gallery

23 Heneage Street, London E1 5LJ

This exhibition of contemporary Belarus art is a rare experience, enabling the audience in London to see for the first time the development of contemporary art after the USSR era.  Their work is in the spiritual steps of the grandmasters, such as Mark Chagall or Leon Bakst. In the deep-rooted traditions of the artists from the country, new art masters conveyed their dreams, their imaginative, surrealistic world which is in strong opposition to the lucid reality in which they live now. The fictional art stories are based on life in places which hold the spirit of the land and embrace Belarus national heritage, they seem eternally locked in the hearts and minds of the artists’ collective memories.

5th Base Gallery is placed within the famous art community of Brick Lane, which still has the charm and veneer of an intimate contemporary space, including an outdoor exhibition area.
